app trail day 13

Friday
Day 13                                               9/24/10
North Creek campground --> Campbell Shelter

What an awesome day. Seth made a fire last night and Corey came in around 12. I was already trying to sleep by that point. Didn't end up waking up til 6 and we were out at 6:40. Corey drove like a maniac and we got dropped off at a parking lot for an hour until Corey came back with a friend (part of the logistics). He presented me with the hohos and sunny d and watched my face happily transform. We started the climb to the awaited McAfee's knob 3.5 miles later and not a bad climb up-pretty fast paced for me, but fun because Corey was telling us stories of his days as a paramedic in West Va and he was rediculously impressed that i had been on one overnight trip and commiteed to a 3 week trip. We got to the top. Top 3 favorites along with Spy Rock and Cold Mountain. It wasn't super clear but gorgeous-the view and the famous cliff that juts out. We took lots of pictures, funny ones that looked like I was hanging off the edge for dear life and Seth had no interest in helping. We walked around and explored a little while running away from gnats and forgetting we could plummet to our death if we took a wrong step. Our view was of Tinker's Cliff which we will hike tomorrow. For lunch, we enjoyed chicken noodle soup, pepperoni, and cheese and a ho ho. Think all i left in teh trail mix were raisons. I hate them. So does Seth. We hate a lot of teh same foods, granted theres not many, but we hate raisons, mustard, pickles, cocunuts (unless im drinking the milk). Isnt it weird there was a time where there wasnt blue m&ms? Hello primary colors? Saw about 7 people there-about the same amount of people we see in a week. There was a sororawhore that was like "ohmuhgawd ohmuhgawd are we finally here?" (holding nothing but a water bottle). She should try it with a pack. Corey wanted to crush all the stink bugs to leave a nice fragrance for all of the newcomers. We had a super good time. We walked down the hill about a half a mile to the shelter. My knees hurt a lot coming downhill so i tried to put all the pressure on my other knee. At least if anything too bad goes down we're with a paramedic although currently the mounatin goat (trail name) and Horse Dong are taking shots of Jack so i'm not sure how up on the medical side he'll be after a few more. My trail name is now Huffing Grimace- at one point they looked back at me to see the grimace in action.
Anyways yeah we got to the shelter at 1 something so early for us and set up and then they've been talking equipment, getting firewood for the bonfire and we're supposedly having and purifying water. It was silent for a good while and I got to read/reread 1/2 of The Alchemist. It's beautiful here. I love silence, a soft cool breeze, sunny day and inner peace. Found a postcard with the Virgin Mary and Jesus taht my mom had written on asking the Virgin Mary to care for me wherever i might go. Well im off to hang out but what a great day.

Lessons from The Alchemist thus far
teaches you never to settle especially in your comfort zone if it doesnt feel right even if you're good at what you're settling in or comfotable.
-When you really want something, the universe conspires to help you
-one of the greatest lies is that at a certaun pont in our lives, we lose control of whats happenning to us and our lives become controlled by fate.
-a person's "destiny" is what you  have always wanted to accomplish and everyone when they are young, knows what it is. At that point in their lives, everything is clear and possible. They're not afraid to dream and yearn for everything tehy would like to see happen with their lives. But as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossoble for them to realize their destiny.
-When you really want to do something, it's because that desire originated in the soul of the univers. it's your mission on earth.
-People start to care too much about what other people think about their life instead of  their destiny
-People learn early in their lives what their reason for being is
-Everything you deal with is one thing and nothing else.
