app trail day 7

day 7                 9/18/10

Seth doesn't like Swiss cake rolls (hohos) or any other Little Debbie snack. What kind of man doesn't like Little Debbie? I once went to the Little Debbie factory in Stuarts Draft, Va on a field trip at JMU. They make 98% of all the nation's oatmeal cream pies there (remember the scene in Honey, I shrank the kids with the seemingly giant oatmeal cream pie?) and they do so by get this combining 2 or 3 other Little Debbie snacks for the oatmeal part-crazy.
Anyways, I really do not want to get into what happened this morning on our adventure out to Buena Vista, Va. Let's just put it this way, we were supposed to walk .8 mile and we ended up walking at least 5 on the road. one of those i wanted to scream i told you so situations but instead i just gritted my teeth, gave an evil look and didn't talk, my phone said "no service available" because we were informed that we were in a dead zone and we couldn't get a hold of the cab to get us. (I told him to call when we had service but nooooo). Seth and I didn't talk in those miles and I was not a happy hiker. Hitchhiking was not ever an option. Now, if I got murdered by a taxi driver, it would be no fault of mine because hey, I got in a taxi-a legitimate driving authority that everyone would trust. Now, if i got murdered by some random guy i decided to get  into a car with, one would argue that it was partially my fault as there is a general consensus that hitchhiking is dangerous and risky-that's a fact.
Moving on. We got service eventually and the taxi came and got us. Nice man named Robert Bird.
Sorry had to take a break because our Italian food got here. Robert Bird was a nice, older fellow that told us among other things that the eyetalian res'trant was the best in town and that Buena Vista motel was better than Budget Inn. He dropped us off there and we got his card to call him tomorrow. A spastic, hippy lady named Becky checked us in and was very nice as well. She even said we could take her car later! We went down the street to the BP and got some chips to hold us off until lunch/dinner. Seth was acting as if he hadn't seen food in years. We came back to the hotel, showered (soo much dirt in the tub) and then walked to a nearby seafood restaurant. Small town of 6,000 folks. Crab cake was pretty good. Then we borrowed Becky's car and drove to the laundry mat to drop off our nasty clothes, food Lion for food for the next 5 days and bruskies and BP for wet wipes. We got back and thanked her. Bought her a thank you card saying that kindness like that is rare these days and put some gas in her tank. So nice. Then we talked to Corey-Seth's former coworker/friend that will be meeting us here about the logistics of his visit. Right now, we're going N-->S Most people do the opposite S-->N (Georgia to Maine). When Corey gets here, we're going to go way South of where we're at and go North, then he'll drive us to where we 3 started and we'll continue N-->S from there so we won't be repeating any part of the trail and will be missing/skipping 20 miles of not too much. We got Italian food delivered and watched TV and drank beers. I'm buzzed right now. Talked to my mom for awhile today. Tomorrow, we'll only be walking/hiking 2 miles. Holler. Ok goodnight until tomorrow. Si Dios quiere.
PS excited about being clean and sleeping in a bed!...and clean clothes. And...I'm looking skinnier!
